Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery
Envision Eye Institute offers Femtosecond (Femto) Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery. This is a stable, consistent, and predictable approach that greatly enhances the precision and safety of the operation. To minimize astigmatism, your surgeon can make precise incisions with a special laser.
Femto Laser eliminates a number of manual elements of cataract surgery, such as surgical incisions in the cornea, the circular hole on the lens surface (capsulotomy) and breaking up of the lens (fragmentation). It can also be used to create peripheral corneal incisions to help with astigmatism correction.
Laser posterior capsulotomy (LPC) is a surgical procedure used to treat a condition called posterior capsular opacification (PCO). PCO is a common complication of cataract surgery and occurs when the back surface of the artificial lens (called the posterior capsule) becomes cloudy. LPC involves using a laser to create an opening in the posterior capsule, which allows light to pass through and improve vision.
Laser Assisted Glaucoma Surgery
Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is a laser surgery that creates a tiny hole in the iris, the colored part of the eye. This procedure is used to treat narrow angles, which can lead to glaucoma.
Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a type of laser surgery that is used to treat open-angle glaucoma. This procedure involves using a laser to target the trabecular meshwork, which is the part of the eye that helps to drain fluid. SLT can be an effective treatment for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP), which can help to prevent further damage to the optic nerve and possible vision loss.
